Homelessness is not only a housing issue. It is also a systems issue, an information issue and often a mental health issue. VellumWorks is developing simple digital tools and guides that help people find support earlier, and help small organisations make their help easier to access.
While our own tools are in development, we have gathered some of the most trusted organisations working in this space.
If you or someone you know needs emergency housing support:
The UK's leading housing and homelessness charity. Shelter provides expert advice, legal support and community services for people facing bad housing or homelessness. Their online advice tool covers rights, benefits and next steps.
Crisis works directly with people experiencing homelessness across the UK, providing education, employment and housing support, and campaigns for systemic change. Their Skylight centres offer practical help year-round.
St Mungo's provides outreach, hostels and housing support across England. They also offer health services and work to rebuild lives after homelessness, with a strong focus on the wellbeing of the whole person.
Turn2us helps people in financial hardship access welfare benefits, charitable grants and other practical support. Their benefits calculator and grants search are free and can be a first step for people at risk of losing their home.
StreetLink connects people sleeping rough with local support services. Anyone can use it, whether to get help for themselves or to alert services to someone they are concerned about.
We are developing digital tools to support this pillar. If you work in homelessness, housing or frontline support and want to shape what we build, we would love to hear from you.
